Bev Miller, LPGA.

Bev has been a teaching professional since 1968, and a Class A LPGA member since 1983.  Her thirty-three years of golfing experience and teaching credentials make her an outstanding addition to the Buffalo Grove Golf & Sports Center staff.

Her love for the game, and joy of teaching, has benefited hundreds of students in Arlington Heights and Glenview.  She also taught for thirteen years at JJ’s Driving Range and at Shelby’s Pro Shop, the founder of John Jacobs Golf Schools, both located in the Chicago area.

Her professional achievements give further credence to her credentials as a LPGA professional.  Bev served as the LPGA Area Education Representative from 1984 to 1994 and was the LPGA National Education Committee Member from 1992 to 1996.  From 1994 to 1998 she was the LPGA Playing Ability Test Coordinator.  She has served on the Goldie Bateson Junior Committee, a pro-am tournament to benefit junior golfers.

Bev teaches several juniors and adult amateurs with outstanding records.  She also works with LPGA Professionals.

Bev has been recognized both within the LPGA and PGA sectionals and nationally for her masterful eye and knowledge of cause and effect.  In 2002 Bev was recognized as one of the top 50 professionals in the country.

Todd Sones, PGA

Three Elements make up Todd’s teaching philosophy.  One, individual instruction should emphasize the student’s strengths.  Two, it is important to address the cause of a problem as opposed to the symptoms.  And three, club fitting should be an integral part of instruction.

Each of these philosophies is explained in his books and magazine articles.  Todd has written “Lights out Putting” which was released the spring of 2000, and later “Down and Dirty – The 40 toughest shots in Golf” was also published.  He also writes for Golf Magazine, Golf Tips and Senior Golfer.

But it is his “hands-on” program that is benefiting the novice as well as the professional golfer.  He was the teaching professional at the Vintage Club (Indian Wells, California) from 1990 to 1996, and head professional at Conway Farms Golf Club in Chicago.  PGA tour players, including David Duval, Chip Beck and Gary Hallberg have benefited from his instruction as well as the 2000 Curtis Cup team members.  Its no wonder that he was listed as the top 100 golf instructors in America by Golf Magazine from 1995 to present.  He also earned the Illinois PGA Teaching Professional of the Year award in 1994 and 1996.

This class “A” PGA member since 1983 is a tremendous asset to the Golf Center teaching staff.

Scott Baines, PGA

Having grown up in Northridge, California, its no coincidence this golf profession is so good at his job.  With outstanding California weather, and an abundance of excellent courses, Scott has amassed an outstanding resume over the last twelve years.

Scott comes to us from the San Diego Golf Academy where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in Business Management.  He held an assistant professional position for three years at the prestigious Del Mar Country Club before leaving to come to Illinois in 1997.  He has held positions at public, private and resort courses on his way to being elected a PGA Member in February of 2003.  Through the PGA’s PGM program, Scott has acquired many skills necessary to be a golf professional.  One of his skills and his passion is instruction.  He has taught thousands of hours of private and group lessons as well as conducted daily and weeklong golf schools at various facilities. He has worked extensively with men, women, junior and senior golfers.  Scott has been teaching at the Buffalo Grove Golf & Sport Center since the winter of 2000.  During the golf season he is currently employed at Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood, Illinois.

Scott’s playing highlights include:  2004 Illinois PGA Section Championship/CPC 8th 2004 Regional CPC, 2004 Illinois Pro-Pro winner, 2005 Illinois PGA Stroke Play winner, 2005 Royal Cup Team Member.

Scott’s teaching highlights (at BMCC) include:  2005 Men’s Club Champion and Runner Up, 2005 Women’s Club Champion Runner Up, 2005 Men’s Class B /Champion and Runner Up, 2005 Men’s D Class Club Champion, 2005 Senior Club Champion, 2005 Presidents Cup Champion, B and C Class Champions and the Ryder Cup Champion, who lowered his handicap from 28 to 22 in a single season.

Geoff Tollefson, PGA

The Buffalo Grove Golf & Sports Center is please to welcome another native Californian to its teaching staff.

After leaving the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, Geoff returned to San Diego to attend the Professional Golfers Career College.  Here he studied the business side of the golfing profession, learning management skills for course and pro shop management.  However, his fondness for teaching a sport he enjoys playing led him to study with the PGA.  Geoff easily passed his PGA players ability test and orientation and is currently completing the PGA Golf Professional Training Program.

Entering Illinois golf competitions allows him to practice what he teaches.  Geoff placed second in the 2000 Illinois Open Qualifier, which allowed him to compete in the 2000 Illinois Open Championship at Fox Run Golf Club in St. Charles, Illinois.

Buffalo Grove residents who frequent both the Arboretum and the Buffalo Grove Golf Club will recognize his face and name.  Geoff has been a teaching professional at both courses for the past five years.
